Memorial Day

Copyright JPool 2007I had to post another non-paintball related post for Memorial Day. Coming from a military family, being a “former” Marine and having a sister and brother-in-law currently serving in the Army (not to mention countless friends in the different services) Memorial Day, for me, is not just about being the day that the pool opens, or having a day off of work to BBQ and spend time with friends.

I hope everyone can take a minute from splashing around in the pool, grilling hot dogs outside, or licking drippy ice-cream cones to think about the reason for the day. 3pm on Memorial Day has been designated as a moment (and just a moment - 1 minute total) of remembrance to honor all those that have died for our freedom.

Click the this link to find out more about the Moment of Remembrance, or click here to go to Remember.gov or here to find out how to observe Memorial Day.

I want to thank all those that have served, and are currently serving in the military, including:

Army: my dad, my sister, my brother-in-law

Marine Corps: Amy, Pat, Chris

Navy: Tony, Todd, Dave, Bryan

Air Force: my grandfather, Matt, Mary

…and so many more! Thank you!

Semper Fi,

-Jen

Survey Says….

The survey results are in!

Thank you to all of you who took the time to participate - it really helped us to pick the right dates and location for our summer paintball games.

As of now, here are the dates that you should pen (not pencil) in your calendar. Evites to follow!

June 30th - Hogback Mountain, 1:30 - 5:00

July 21st - Tentative Location, Hogback Mountain, 1:30 - 5:00

August 18th - Tentative Location, Hogback Mountain, 1:30 - 5:00.

The one comment we got was “Why is it fun to shoot Brad in the head?” I may have to save that question for a future survey (or paintball game), but in my personal opinion it’s because of the Jester Hat he likes to wear. It’s hard not to want to shoot someone who likes to taunt you with his head wear. Oh, and it may also be the fact that he likes to shoot everyone else in the head…so a head shot to Brad is extremely satisfying. :)

Armed Forces Day - A Quick Thank You

I wanted to take a break from all the paintball chatter to sincerely THANK all of our veterans for the sacrifices and danger they put themselves in for all of our sakes. I also want to thank all of the men and women who are currently deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan, South Korea, etc. and whom are in harms way today.

I want to recognize both my little sister, and her husband John (both Captains in the Army) for all that they do. My sister is currently deployed, and John will be deploying in the next couple months. (This is a picture of them when they took a day on their R&R, right before Danielle deployed, to spend with us playing paintball in August at Skyline. That’s dedication. :) ) Thank you guys for all that you do!

If you’re one of our “regulars” each month and have a friend or family member currently serving overseas (or if you’re currently serving in the military), please leave a comment to let us know & we will recognize you and them on our Memorial Day Post.

Vote or Die

Okay, well not really - but the title caught your attention, didn’t it? :)

I know I posted the dates for the summer paintball events in a previous post, but I’m reconsidering. If everyone else’s summers are filled with just as many trips/ weddings/ bridal showers/ family commitments, etc. as ours are, it might be tough to get some games going if we’re not all in sync.

So, being all high-tech (and mildly bored at work on a Monday), I created the following survey for you to go to and vote on which dates June-August work for you guys. (Note: If you’ve never played with us before please do not vote. Only the folks that have come out, or will come out that have been added to our evites, may participate.)

The survey closes in 10 days - so take 2 minutes (or less, depending on how fast you can select the buttons) and vote by clicking this link now.

Thank you! Voting results and final dates will be announced on the 24th.

Success!

I think the consensus was that we all had a blast at Hogback Mountain in Leesburg today! We had an awesome ref (Matt) and got to play an exciting 3 1/2 hours. Make sure to check out the “Honorable Mentions” to the right of this page. :)

We’ll see you again in June! (And may try out Hogback again since everyone seemed to like it so much.)

*UPDATE* Venue Change for Saturday!

Please note that we have had to change locations for tomorrow’s game!  Skyline was so booked that they could not guarantee that all of us, despite having a private game, would be able to have rental guns (they only have so many), so we’ve changed locations to ensure that all of us can actually play.

The good news is, this location is in Leesburg, so it’s much closer.

Details:

Hogback Mountain is in Leesburg: Access directions, their address and more information by clicking on this link.

The cost for renting a gun and playing from 1:30pm - 5:00pm is $45; that includes the field fee, rental gun, mask, all-day air fills and 500 rounds of paint.

The cost if you have your own gun is $30; that includes the field fee, all-day air fills and 500 rounds of paint.

Even though we don’t start playing until 1:30, you must show up at the field at 12:30pm!

If you’re carpooling with us:  Show up at our place around 11:45am so that we can get the cars situated and be on the road by 12:00 in order to get to Hogback on time.

Waiver:  You’ll have to sign the waiver when you get there, but if you want to get it out of the way now, click on the link below and you can print out the PDF file and be good to go when you get there.

PDF Waiver Form for Hogback

Sorry for the last-minute change in venue…but we thought it would best for everyone if when we got together to play paintball, we’d all have a gun to shoot with.  :)

See you all tomorrow!

And the countdown begins….

By the time most of you read this there will be less than 24 hours before our all day paintball event on Saturday down in Strasburg. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • It’s going to be hot. The high is going to be 83 with some potential humidity for impending post-paintball thunderstorms. Wear light layers (a sweatshirt would probably not be ideal.)
  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. You probably don’t want to pass out, so drink some water on the way down there before you start playing. We bring a cooler of water w/us, so you’ll be set during breaks, but it wouldn’t hurt to start the day off hydrated.
  • WEAR SUNSCREEN. Just because you’re running around and potentially covered in paint doesn’t mean you’ll avoid a sunburn. The rental masks also don’t ensure your face won’t get burned.

Please note! Skyline Paintball is booked solid on Saturday. If you have your own paintball gun, or have a friend who has one (and isn’t coming) see if you can bring it. Skyline may be short on rental guns Saturday and we want to make sure as many people as possible can play!

If you have any questions, leave a comment, or contact us via the info on our evite!

See you all on Saturday! :)
